ChatGPT

What it is
ChatGPT is a conversational AI assistant made by OpenAI. You type (or talk), it responds. Under the hood it runs OpenAI's GPT family of large language models, plus tools like web search, image generation and a code interpreter.
What it is genuinely good at
- First drafts of anything: emails, posts, summaries, plans
- Explaining a topic at whatever level you request
- Brainstorming and "poke holes in this idea" feedback
- Coding help and spreadsheet formulas
- Searching the web and summarizing what it found (ChatGPT Search)
Honest limitations
It hallucinates — states wrong facts confidently — so verify anything load-bearing. Web search helps but is not a guarantee. Privacy matters too: conversations can be used for training unless you opt out in settings, so do not paste secrets.
Free vs paid, briefly
The free tier covers everyday use with limits. Plus (paid) buys stronger models, higher usage caps, advanced voice and image tools. Teams/Enterprise add workspace controls. Most casual users should start free and upgrade only when they hit the limits.
